Blue with Little White Stars is the story of a little girl’s limitless imagination as she discovers the secrets of her aunt’s blue hijab (veil) with little white stars.  We join her on an exciting journey of discovery.

She wraps the veil around her waist and transforms into a beautiful princess; she lays the veil on the floor where she magically converts its folds into big waves that carry her ship; she looks at the veil through a paper telescope to explore the sparkling beauty of the night sky… . Her imagination eventually leads us to the final destination.

Author Saba Hakim tackles a controversial adult topic – the Muslim head covering – and presents it to young audiences through the apolitical eyes of a child.

The illustrations are equally inspiring bringing together the intricate artistry of Australia’s own Anna Cordingly together with the colourful imaginative work of the Iranian artist Rafat Hashemi Sisakht .

Workshop/Story Telling:  Harmony day coming up? Holding a multicultural event? Why not invite the author to conduct one of her delightful
storytelling sessions.  Children will enjoy reading the story while playing the imagination games with the “Blue hijab with Little White Stars”.  They will also have the chance to meet Little Koala (pictured in the cover and a co-star of the book), and take her on a bus ride on the shiny blue hijab bus.  There are also worksheet activities including making a flying blue carpet with little white stars to travel the world. The workshops are suitable for children from prep to grade 2.
